How school supplies and clothing transformed education for 500 students across three rural communities in Ghana

Grace Teye wakes up at 5:30 every morning, helps her mother with chores, and walks forty minutes to Kabiawe-Kponor DA Primary School—carrying only her determination, no backpack or notebooks.
In rural Ghana, families living on less than $2 a day prioritize food over school supplies, leaving 500 students across Kasseh, Ada Foah, and Kabiawe-Kponor struggling without basic resources.
Inspired by Naana Akleh Kateye Brempong I—Vivian Williams, CEO of Women of Zion Foundation and Divisional Queen Mother—teachers noted students sharing notebooks or writing on scraps, unable to fully participate.
"Basic items like notebooks, pens, and textbooks were scarce. Students felt embarrassed and less motivated to attend school."
Beyond supplies, worn uniforms and lack of attire kept children home, perpetuating poverty. WOZ started with community dialogues to ensure dignified, sustainable support: complete kits, uniforms, and partnerships mobilizing 15,000 cedis.
Distribution days were joyful: over 3,000 items to 500+ students, boosting attendance by 25% and sparking enthusiasm in classrooms.
"The clothes and school supplies I received changed everything for me. I now feel confident walking in my community and at school. Having proper clothing and all the books and stationery I need means I can focus on my studies and finish the term strong."
Grace now dreams of teaching, her path cleared by these resources. Quarterly follow-ups and partnerships ensure lasting impact, rippling through families and communities.
Because of 3,000 simple items—notebooks, pens, uniforms, and backpacks—dreams like Grace's are now within reach.
